Overview of the upcoming Justice Sector Equalities Conference 2024

The Justice Sector Equalities Conference is FJSS Group’s flagship annual event for the Scottish justice sector. It was launched in June 2019 at COSLA Conference Centre in Edinburgh. This year, the conference will be held on Thursday 29th August 2024 between 09:00AM to 15:00HRS at the magnificent 11 Parliament Hall in Parliament Square, Edinburgh, EH1 1RQ and will run under the theme, Our judiciary and law enforcement: what diversity might look like.

Relevance of the conference in the context of equality and diversity

The promotion of equality, diversity and inclusion is the core work that FJSS Group does, and the Justice Sector Equalities Conference is one of the keys channels through which we achieve this. The conference provides key stakeholders in the justice sector with an opportunity to explore ways to further diversity and inclusion in the sector to create a fair justice system reflective of Scottish society today. This is important because a diverse justice sector, with better representation of black and ethnic minorities, results in enhanced judicial thinking and perspectives, ultimately enhancing justice and fairness for everyone.

History of the Justice Sector Equalities Conference

The conference was launched in 2019 and has held every year since then, excluding 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic. It has achieved repeated success and is today among the most prominent and anticipated events within the Scottish justice sector.
